Stephen Shimko
Offensive Coordinator / QB Coach

Steve Shimko was named the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback’s Coach on January 11th, 2016.

Shimko comes to Garden City from the University of Georgia where he served as a Graduate Assistant and Asst. Quarterback’s Coach under the Offensive Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Shimko assisted in recruiting and preparation Greyson Lambert, the Bulldogs starting quarterback, a graduate transfer from the University of Virginia.

Prior to the University of Georgia, Shimko served as the Director of Player Development and Recruiting Coordinator at Western Michigan University. In his year at Western Michigan, Shimko signed the top rated class in the MAC.

Shimko began his coaching career at his alma mater, Rutgers University, where he was hired as a Player Development Coach to assist in film breakdown and quarterback development. Shimko worked under Greg Schiano (Ohio State University Defensive Coordinator), Frank Cignetti (New York Giant’s Quarterback Coach), Ron Prince (Detroit Lion’s Offensive Line Coach), and Dave Brock (University of Delaware Head Coach).

Before Shimko’s coaching career began, he played quarterback at Rutgers university and participated in the Papa John’s Bowl (2008) and St. Petersburg bowl (2009) where Rutgers came out victorious in both.

Shimko has a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in Criminal Justice and Labor Relations.

Daniel McKinney
Passing Coordinator / Wide Receivers

Coach McKinney comes to Garden City Community College from the Washington Redskins. McKinney is from Detroit Michigan and following a two year stint at San Francisco Community College transferred to Florida Atlantic University. McKinney was recruited and coached by Jeff Sims to FAU. Mckinney is a 1st year coach and will work with receivers and serve as Co-Passing Game Coordinator.

Coach Sims on Daniel McKinney, “It is always awesome to have a former player as part of your staff. Daniel is from Detroit Michigan; a National Champion Junior College Player from San Francisco Junior College. He is an All-Conference player from Florida Atlantic University and played in the NFL with the Washington Redskins. We are excited to have his mentorship and leadership with our players”.
